But also fatigue, sleep disturbances, and mood changes that are often ignored or mistaken for stress. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here's why to recognize them in time and adopt <\/span><b>personalized therapeutic strategies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is increasingly crucial, including improving the quality of life from the earliest stages of the disease.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today Italian research itself is making important strides in precisely this direction.<\/span><\/p><h3>A genetic study to learn more about juvenile Parkinson's disease<b><br \/><\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the\u2019<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsr.it\/news\/2024\/ottobre\/nuovo-modello-sperimentale-malattia-parkinson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><b>IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Milan, Italy, a scientific study dedicated to understanding juvenile Parkinson's has been launched, with the goal of identifying genetic and molecular correlations that may explain the early onset of the disease.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project, led by the <\/span><b>Prof. Gianni Pezzoli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a leading neurologist in the field of Parkinson's disease and president of the <\/span><b>Pezzoli Foundation for Parkinson's Disease,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> collaborates with the team of the <\/span><b>Division of Neurology of the Neuroscience Research Unit.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The intent is to collect clinical and genetic data from patients diagnosed under 50 years of age to define specific biological profiles that can guide toward more effective and personalized treatments.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers have identified some molecular markers that could explain the early onset of Parkinson's and, eventually, pave the way for targeted treatments. It is an important step toward increasingly personalized medicine.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Dr. <\/span><b>Arianna Bellucci<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, head of the Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology Unit, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cthe study will enable the development of therapeutic strategies targeted to the biological characteristics of each patient.\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p><h3>Immersive technologies and integrated treatments: StepUP is born<\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, research in Bologna is also moving forward in an innovative spirit. The European project <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ausl.bologna.it\/news\/archivio-2025-1\/malattia-parkinson-progetto-ricerca-internazionale-realta-aumentata-stepup-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><b>StepUp<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, coordinated by the\u2019<\/span><b>Bologna USL Company<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and from the <\/span><b>Department of Neuroscience, University of Ferrara<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, developed with international partners, combines rehabilitative treatments and state-of-the-art technologies to address movement disorders in Parkinson's disease.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project has the ambitious goal of integrating functional motor treatments with the use of the <\/span><b>augmented reality<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, thus offering an engaging, effective therapeutic experience tailored to individual needs.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As neurologist Maria Carla Modugno explains, the heart of the project is a <\/span><b>functional and motivational approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, capable of making physical activity an integral part of therapy.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For younger patients living with Parkinson's in the midst of work or family life, tools like this can make a difference: they train the body by intervening in a multidimensional way from walking to balance to emotional and motivational support during the rehabilitation journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study is co-funded by the <\/span><b>European Commission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and involves partners of excellence in neurology, technology, and rehabilitation to test new non-pharmacological treatment modalities.<\/span><\/p><h3>When collaboration makes a difference<\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two studies recount an Italy of research that focuses on the <\/span><b>multidisciplinary collaboration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
